Domestic tourism expected to attract Rs 50,000 crore investment

India’s image as a tourist destination has improved considerably, Country has witnessed upto 40 percent growth in tourist footfall from countries which have been visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his last two years in office. 144 investors from 70 companies have already confirmed their participation in the first-of-its-kind mega tourism summit — Incredible India Tourism Investors Summit — to be inaugurated by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on September 21. Visa on arrival: India sees 421.6% jump in tourist arrivals in December

The central government's effort to boost inbound tourism by including more countries under the visa on arrival scheme has paid off. In December alone, the country saw a 421.6% jump in tourist arrivals compared to the same period in 2013. Government of India to develop 700 islands for tourism

Many  of the over 700 uninhabited islands across India will be developed for  tourism, filmmaking, entertainment activities, as honeymoon  destinations, maritime security and also for generating non-conventional  energy - both wind and solar.  This scheme will be part of the  ambitious Sagarmala project. The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the  concept note and institutional framework to implement this massive  project that Narendra Modi government has revived. The Sagarmala concept  was first mooted by Atal Bihari Vajpayee during his last tenure.  "We have a total of 1,208 islands including the uninhabited ones and  there are 185 lighthouses. These will be developed as hub of tourist  activity.
