PMJDY deposit on rise, crosses Rs 42,000-crore mark

deposits under this flagship financial inclusion scheme have crossed Rs 42,000 crore-mark and the percentage of zero-balance accounts has fallen below 25 per cent. Since April, there has been an addition of about Rs 6,000 crore under the Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY). As many as 24.27 crore accounts have been opened under the scheme and the percentage of zero balance has come down to 24.43 per cent. India on path of becoming pivot for hi-tech manufacturing: UN

India is on the path of becoming a "pivot" for high-tech world manufacturing even as global manufacturing growth is expected to remain low in 2016 due to weakened financial support for productive activities, a new UN report said. The quarterly 'World Manufacturing Production report', published by the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) said world manufacturing output is expected to increase by only 2.8 per cent in 2016. However, in contrast to recent years, there will be no breakout from the low-growth trap in 2016. According to the latest GDP data released in India, the manufacturing sector grew 9.1 per cent during April-June 2016, a slight decline from the 9.3 per cent clocked in January to March. Domestic tourism expected to attract Rs 50,000 crore investment

India Jumps 16 Spots In Global Competitiveness For Second Year In A Row

India has climbed 16 places to the 39th rank on the global competitiveness index prepared by the World Economic Forum, in a big boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi government's reform initiatives. The World Economic Forum's global competitiveness index assesses the competitiveness landscape of 138 economies, providing insight into the drivers of their productivity and prosperity. The jump of 16 places for India from last year's 55th place is the highest for any economy this year. India is also the second-most competitive among BRICS nations behind neighbouring China, which is ranked at the 28th position. This is the second year in a row India's ranking has jumped 16 spots in the index. For the eighth straight time, the list is topped by Switzerland as the most competitive economy. Singapore and the US are at the second and third positions, respectively. On the index, India has a score of 4.52 while that of Switzerland is 5.81. At the fourth spot is Netherland

Since the Western nations’ sanction on Russia, Russia has been forced to pivot towards Asia — primarily India and China. It’s an opportune time for India to bargain and lap up some stake in Russian oilfields and to increase its stake of overseas energy fields. Black money : 65,250 crore disclosed under Income Declaration Scheme

As much as Rs 65,250 crore of Black money was declared during the four-month compliance window of the Income Declaration Scheme+ that ended on September 30, We expect tax collection of Rs 30,000 crore from the IDS declarations.” 64,275 declarations+ were made in the four-month window and this figure could go up once all the declarations filed online and manually are compiled. The move is aimed at reducing red tape in the incorporation of businesses, which currently require up to 8 forms. 2,300 KM international border with Pakistan to be sealed soon

The government plans to seal the international border with Pakistan, spread over 2,300 km, soon. Union home minister Rajnath Singh will discuss the proposal at a closed-door meeting in Jaisalmer on Friday with home ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat. The Centre also plans to propose installing of radars, CCTV cameras, laser fences and motion sensors to fill the gaps on the international border. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) **registers 32% growth**

Riding on a robust performance of all its verticals, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) achieved a turnover of Rs. 1,506 crore in 2015-16 as compared to Rs.1,141 crore in 2014-15, registering a growth of 32 per cent. The Railways PSU's net profit was pegged at Rs. 189 crore during FY16 as against Rs. 131 crore a year earlier. The net worth of IRCTC during the fiscal was Rs. 542.07 crore while it was Rs. 444.25 crore in the previous financial year, as per the 17th Annual Report (2015-16) which was presented at the company's Annual General Meeting (AGM) held recently. Rajasthan: Udaipur becomes first city in the country to have an all-woman police patrol wing

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje launched the Lady Patrol wing from the Fateh Sagar Lake side inUdaipur city on Thursday. Smart lady cops dressed in crisp blue uniforms and helmets carrying glock pistols zoomed off on their task to patrol around the city streets on modified bikes equipped with double colored beacons, search lights, first aid boxes and other needed instruments. Impressed by the unique idea of Udaipur police, CM Raje announced that the initiative will be adopted in other cities too. Encouraging the lady cops to do their best, Raje said “ the public specially young girls, women and elderly persons will feel more secure finding women cops around them. DISHA was launched by PM in Jharkhand in 2014. The programme offers two-hour, 10-hour and 20-hour courses in local languages. This will help in training the people. GOI launched a programme to invest Rs 450-500 crore on providing basic computer education to about 50 lakh people over the next three years with the help of private companies in 2014. The investment will be made under a project called Disha in certain identified districts. The computer literacy programme is critical for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet project, Digital India , which hopes to bridge the digital divide in the country. The government will choose the districts where this programme will be run. One person would be chosen from every eligible household for training.
