Shaurya Smarak to be first war memorial in India


  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Shaurya Samarak, the war memorial for martyred soldiers, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, today.
  • The first-of-its-kind memorial has been constructed by the state government in honor of those who laid down their lives in service to the nation.
  • Spread in an area of 12.67 acre land, the 'Shaurya Smarak' is constructed at a cost of Rs 41 crore.
  • According to the detailed plan, it will have light and sound facility to narrate stories of bravery of the nation's valiant soldiers, who have laid down their lives fighting enemies on the borders.
  • Notably, efforts are made to amass valour and courage at the Shaurya Smarak.
  • Pictures of wars from ancient time to modern period have been exhibited. Seventy photographs of wars after independence have been displayed at the Shaurya Smarak.
  • Visitors will feel difficult situation of Siachen. Photographs of Supreme Commander of Defense Forces President of India and Chiefs of three forces are also displayed at the Smarak.
  • Poems full of valour and courage are also engraved at the Samarak. Beside all this Shaurya Smarak has 60 seater theatre where short films on valour will be shown.
  • Moreover, efforts are made to make realize concept of life, death and life after death.
  • Scenes are being organised with the sound of war. Concept of shaurya stambh is based on victory over death.
  • Red spot down below the pillar symbolizes blood. White, at the top exhibits life.
  • Moreover, names of martyrs are inscribed at the back of the Stambh. Flame at the Shaurya Stambh will be illuminated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Chief Minister Chouhan was apprised about the arrangements and Prime Minister’s tour related arrangements by the Chief Secretary Antony DeSa.

Coal auction: Govt upbeat of earning more revenue than CAG's loss estimate of Rs 1.86L cr

The auction for coal blocks began aggressively with Anil Ambani's Reliance Cement bagging a block with a bid of Rs 1,402 per tonne, more than nine times the floor price of Rs 150, prompting the government to call it a grand success that would generate more revenue than the Comptroller and Auditor General of India's (CAG's) estimate of Rs 1.86 lakh crore lost by free distribution.
